Book 50!!!!
Yay! I'm starting book #50 today. I will be reading 'A Girl Named Zippy' by Haven Kimmel. This is a memoir of Kimmel's story of growing up in a small town in Mooreland, Indiana. She was nicknamed Zippy at a young age for the way she ran around the house. I think this will be an interesting book for me because I grew up in the small town of Gilman, Wisconsin. When I say small town, I don't mean a couple thousand people, I mean about 400. Mooreland has a population of about 300 and has since 1940, this is the same as Gilman. I think the population sign in town has said 406 people for as far back as I can remember. I'm curious to see if there are any similarities between the two towns. It's definitely a different way of life than living in a bigger city.

This book was a disappointing way to end the challenge. There were some interesting stories that started out good, but then didn't build up to anything. If each of the stories actually had an interesting ending this book could have been entertaining. There were a few laugh out loud moments for me like the sister asking if dad was drinking and the little girl saying "no he only drinks at work". I did like Haven as a little girl and found her unique, but I guess I wish she would have embellished the stories a little for my entertainment. Is that selfish?
ReplyDeleteThere were a few instances that I was reminded of Gilman and of my family growing up. I loved that the dad made her a new bike from spare pieces, because that is something my dad did for me. And I also laughed when she said her mom has a loud crunch no matter what she eats. I've always thought my mom was the loudest chewer in the world. All that being said, this book just reminded me of my life and makes we want to write a memoir.
