Book 34: Falling Leaves
I just started 'Falling Leaves: The True Story of an Unwanted Chinese Daughter' by Adeline Yen Mah. So far I have only read the Prologue, but it sounds very interesting. It is the story of Adeline's family. Her mother died while giving birth to her, so Adeline was though of as bad luck. She is rejected by her father and emotionally and physically abused by her step-mother and siblings. I'm sure this story will be very sad, but I'm interested to see how Adeline survives through this ordeal and if she is able to forgive her family for the way they treated her when she was young.

Sounds interesting.
ReplyDeleteThis story was amazing. Some of the details of the history of China/Japan and the time line were a little confusing, but the story of the family was so interesting. I could not believe what a truly evil person Niang (the step-mother) was. Nothing in life made her happy except the father's money and having a sense of power over the entire family. She basically brainwashed the father and tried to make all family members fight constantly. I do feel the most sorry for Adeline, but it seems as if the whole family had a horrible life because of the step-mother. It was a story of not being able to trust anyone in your family and was so sad. Adeline had a great relationship with her Aunt Baba, but was not allowed to see her. There were so many things that happened to this family up until the death of the father and then step-mother. I definitely recommend it to others.
