Book #45: Everything is Illuminated
The next book I am starting is 'Everything is Illuminated' by Jonathan Safranfoer. In this story a young man ventures out to find the woman who might or might not have saved his grandfather from the Nazis. Jonathan travels with an old haunted by war, a dog, and a young Ukrainian translator. Throughout the journey he tries to imagine the history behind his grandfathers life. This book is supposed to be a mix of comedy and tragedy as history unfolds.

Sounds interesting.
ReplyDeleteI finished this book and thought it was brilliant. It was sickening, sad, and funny all in one. Even though so much of the story was sad, I actually laughed out loud several times while reading it. The conversations between Jonathan and Alex the translator were hilarious. I really liked the format of the book too with the 2 different stories and letters of correspondence. I was a little confused by it at first, but it made sense later. The only thing I wish is that more of the story would have been answered, but nothing can ever be perfect.
