Book 29: Things I've Been Silent About

For my 29th book I am reading 'Things I've Been Silent About' by Azar Nafisi. I don't really know too much about this book, but a friend of mine told me it's one of her favorite books. This is a personal memoir of Nafisi growing up in Iran and dealing with family secrets and political revolution. From the very long description in the cover, it sounds like this book will be very sad, but very interesting as well.

  1. I thought this book sounded really interesting. Some parts I really enjoyed, but others were really slow reading. I loved the personal parts of this book rather than the historical/political parts. The relationship between Azar and her parents was very complicated and brought a lot to the story. I am also amazed at how common divorce is in Iran. I guess I always thought that the US was the "divorce capitol of the world" and really didn't picture traditional Muslim families getting divorced, but in this book it happened a lot.
This book was broke into 4 parts. Of the 4 parts, my favorite was about the time her father was in jail. That part was the fastest read for me. This was a sad story about the family and political struggles in Iran. I'm glad I read the book even though it wasn't one of my favorites.
